During the Season of Easter and Beyond. . .

The parament color for the last two Sunday of Easter is white, which is the color of purity and completeness. The theme for the ‚Äúgreat fifty days‚ÄĚ of Easter is supported by the use of white. This color, used primarily during these Sundays, assists in bearing the message that ‚Äúthough your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow.‚Ä̬†

Beyond the first two Sundays of May, which are the final Sundays of Easter (7 in all), the church year progresses to Pentecost on May 19 (Red paraments) and Trinity Sunday on May 26 (White paraments).

About Pentecost. . .

The Church celebrates the Festival of Pentecost as the fulfillment and conclusion of the Easter season. The name Pentecost, meaning ‚Äúthe fiftieth day,‚ÄĚ originally referred to the Jewish Festival of Weeks, the time of thanksgiving for first-fruits and the ingathering of the harvest (cf. Ex. 34:22). The Christian Church retained the name to mark the completion of the 50-day period after Easter‚ÄĒand the first¬†in-gathering of believers into the Church.

On Pentecost, Christians commemorate the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit. We recall how a humble fisherman, filled with the Spirit, boldly proclaimed Jesus Christ crucified and risen from the dead. We give thanks that a multitude of hearers repented and believed. Three thousand people, from all over the world, were baptized and received the gift of the Spirit. Sent by God the Father, and by His Son, Jesus Christ, the Spirit came to continue the Father’s work on earth.

Welcome to Ascension!

We are located at 3801 Oakwood Avenue NW in Huntsville, Alabama. Not only do we have a building that is visible from the street, but we also have a preschool and child development center (Ascension Lutheran CDC) that is behind the main church building.

We have two worship services on Sunday morning with Bible study for children, youth and adults between the two services.  We also conduct a Monday evening service. Special services are held during the seasons of Advent (four weeks before Christmas) and Lent (six weeks before Easter). Our schedules are posted for these services as the special seasons approach.

"Drive-In" services on Sunday mornings are available at both 8:00 and 10:45 AM.  Come to the parking lot and tune your vehicle radio to FM 88.7.  Listen to the service in your vehicle.

The church's office hours are from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Our phone number is (256) 536-9987.

Ascension's preschool and child development center has openings for infants through preschool, this year.
